I am still looking for any information about the parents of William Stewart, born 1812 in Romulus, Seneca County, NY. He lived at Battle Creek, MI for several years, and was living there when his daughter, my gg-grandmother was born June 2, 1837. His wife was Sarah Swarthout, daughter of Anthony R. Swarthout, that family which moved from Battle Creek/Ypsilanti areas to Saginaw.
In some old letters, I found a Battle Creek newspaper obituary for a Joseph Stewart, born 1809 in Romulus, son of John Stewart who moved to MI in 1826. No mention was made of a mother, so it is assumed she died before coming to MI. A lookup for Mt. Green Cemetery, Romulus NY showed a Mary, wife of John, who died in her 33rd year in 1819. This is a possibility I am looking at. Also, an obituary for John Stewart, Jr. born Romulus, 1810, son of same John, Sr., was posted to the Calhoun Co., MI GenWeb page, with almost an identical history. These are both possibly brothers of my ggg-grandfather William, but I have no confirmation of that being true.

Someone contacted me recently with information on a Mary E. Stewart mother of Frederick Church of Grand Rapids, who was the daughter of "Col. Joh Stewart of Calhoun County, MI" (Battle Creek). She was born in 1822, and could possibly be a half sister, if this is the same John and he married again in MI. Letters I have also mention a brother of William named Enoch who he visited in California.

Any help with this line of Stewarts would be appreciated. I am at a dead end on the other end also, as I can find no descendants of this family, other than my line, to share the many letters and photos from them that my gg-grandmother, great grandfather, grandfather, and father saved since about 1850, written between then and about 1900. William and Sarah moved to Hardin, Clayton County, IA in 1857, and in 1870 to Jackson Co., MN. In 1872 they moved to Burr Oak, Jewell County, KS, where wife Sarah, and several other family members are buried. William moved to Rainier, OR in his last years and lived with a son, where he died in October, 1896. Their children were Laura, md. Henry Collins (my line); George Eugene; W.A. (William Albert?) md. Lizzie Brown; Loese Larissa md Levi Walt Whitney; Nelson S. md Emma Gist; Clara Adele (Carrie) md J.K. McLain (1st mayor of Burr Oak, prominent businessman there); J. Gilbert md. Sadie Ross; Edgar M. died infant; Charles H. md. Mary Abell; Sar!
