Hi Carol,

According to the Stewart Clan Magazine (pages F178, 179 of January 1952)
Elizabeth Stewart who married John Slaven was the daughter of Daniel
Stewart of Sussex Co., Delaware, and a sister to the William Stewart you
have surmised might be her father. Their father Daniel, b. ca 1712, was
"probably" descended from Dr. John Stewart of Monmouth Co. NJ and Sussex
Co. DE, the son of one of four sons of Dr John, Samuel, David, John or
William, though the SCM editor speculates that it was probably William
as he apparently named his first son William.

These two pages are full of this family, too much to type I'm afraid;
but it does mention that Daniel's son William petitioned in 1783 the
Sussex Co. court to divide the 100 acres which Daniel had not disposed
of in his will between Daniel's children or their heirs, naming them as
himself; Comfort, wife of Samuel LINGO; Betty, wife of John SLAVEN "who
live in Augusta Co. VA" (but who apparently also lived in Rockingham Co.
VA); Sarah, married to John WILLSON; Martha Stewart; Mary who married
William WAPLES and died leaving a son Levi; and Nancy, who married
Joseph WHITE and died leaving two children. Elizabeth is not mentioned
in her father's will of 1774, presumably because as the eldest she was
well taken care of by then; she married John Slaven ca 1748. This
petition might be the root of the confusion.

Elizabeth and John Slaven's children are given as:
John, b. 10 Apr 1760, m-1 Martha WADE, m-2 Elizabeth Warwick HODGE
Isaiah, m. 22 Feb 1786 Martha STEWART, Augusta Co. (see D165)
The paragraph also quotes from G"enealogy and History", apparently found
in the Texas Historical Society, that John was the fifth child.
