XENIA DAILY GAZETTE AND TORCHLIGHT
THURSDAY EVENING - JUNE 14, 1898
XENIA, OHIO
GREENE COUNTY

John Hugh STEWART, son of Jacob and Deborah STEWART, was born at
Cincinnati, Ohio June 5, 1826, and died June 8, 1898 aged 72 years and 3
days.He was left an orphan at the early age of 6 years, came to Greene
County Ohio after his parents death making his home with his uncle, John
STEWART, who was then living on the farm owned by Sam'l HOWER, in
Beavercreek Township. Here he lived until 2 years after his marriage. He
was united in marriage to Susan SWIGART February 1, 1853. The union was
blessed with 9 children, 5 sons and 4 daughters, all now living except 1
daughter who died in infancy. Those living and left to mourn his loss are
Isaac, Marcellus, Homer, Samuel, John, Mrs. Wm DILLE, Mrs. Albert TOMS,
and Miss Sarah. Also 20 grandchildren.

His wife departed this life April 12, 1883, thus leaving him a widower
for the past 15 years. His life for the past 23 years was spent in the
present vicinity, the last 18 years having been spent in the home where
he died.

During his last illness which lasted for 7 months, he was almost a
constant sufferer, his disease being stomach trouble. But through all his
suffering, which at times was intense, he bore up patiently, not wishing
to be a trouble or annoyance to his friends, but longing for the end to
come that he might find rest.

He was a kind and loving father and friend, making great pleasure in
having his friends gather at his home to which all were welcome. As a
neighbor he was always willing and anxious to lend a helping hand and was
honest and upright in his dealings with his fellow men.

The funeral services were held at Byron June 11, conducted by Rev.
ALBRIGHT of the Reformed Church in a most excellent discourse, attended
by a large concourse of friends.

The family extend their thanks to friends and neighbors for their kind
help and sympathy during the last sickness and death of their father.

How sweet it will be in the far away home
Where free from all sorrow and pain
With songs on our lips and palms in our hands
to meet father and mother again

( I have no connection) I just found this obit and thought it might help
someone on the list.
