Hi Ronald,
This family is in the SCM: easiest way to find it is to check the pages
under Elizabeth Brown:
Brown, Elizabeth, m.James, NC 1793: D28,E57,G21,H237,I298
On D28 there is a note that "James Stuard (same man) was witness to the
will of John Coffey of Wilkes County, Aug 11, 1825. Coffey had a sister
Sally [Coffey] who married Samuel Stewart and a brother William [Coffey]
who married Ann Boone, niece of Daniel, says the 'History of Watauga
Coujnty', 1915. McCaleb Coffey, a brother of William, married Elizabeth
Collett, who had a brother Abram [Collett] who married Mary Stewart and
a brother James [Collett] who married Jane Stewart."
This might be the Sam Stewart you were wondering about.
Samuel NC 18-- s.? m.SallyCoffee D28, H238
James himself can be found by using the 'find in page' facility for
these same pages:
James NC 1770 s.Wm/LorenaLacefield D28, E57, 70, G21, H237 [the main
article on this man], I298
The editor of the SCM does say on page H237 "probably the son of William
Stewart and wife Lorena Lacefield", so you might want to pursue that
clue. Nothing is said of James' first wife.
Lacefield, Lorena/Uranah, VA 1768: D23,E47,F193,216,G120,H237
William NC 1745 s.? m.LorenaLacefield D23, E47, F193, 216, G120, H237
On H238 the Coffey/Coffee clue is repeated, and it says that Sally
Coffee married Samuel Stewart on 2 March 1824, "a man with whom we are
unacquainted". And only two children (page H239) are given tentatively
to James: Mary, b. 15 Nov 1804, m. 30 July 1823 Abram Collett, and Jane,
b. 31 Oct 1811, m. 15 Dec 1829 James Hugh Collett. These of course are
the two names mentioned earlier. I imagine the editor is assigning them
to James because they are in the next generation.
Hope this helps,
Mary
