Date: Sun, 26 May 2002 17:19:52 +0100
My maternal grandmother was Charlotte Jane Stewart who married my maternal
grandfather Cornelius O'Sullivan. I am anxious to trace STEWART relations
and I am giving all of the details that I have about my STEWART ancestors.
Do these details mean anything to anybody on the List? I look forward to
responses. My STEWART ancestors were members of the Presbyterian Church.
[1] MY GRANDMOTHER AND HER SIBLINGS
[a] Jemina Jane Stewart born on 12th July 1865 at Tullintrain, Cumber,
Claudy, County Londonderry.
[b] Matilda Mary Stewart born on 22nd August 1868 at Tullintrain, Cumber,
Claudy, County Londonderry.
[c] Isabella Stewart born on 6th June 1872 at Tullintrain, Cumber, Claudy,
County Londonderry. She emigrated to Canada, never married, lived with her
brother John James Stewart, and died in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada,
on 2nd February 1960.
[d] Charlotte Jane Stewart [my maternal grandmother] born on 3rd December
1875 at
Tullintrain, Cumber, Claudy, County Londonderry. She married my maternal
grandfather, Cornelius O'Sullivan, in Derry City on 4th December 1899. She
died in Dublin on 27th November 1955.
[e] John James Stewart born on 28th July 1880 at Kincull, Feeny, Limavady,
County Londonderry. He emigrated to Canada, was ordained a Minister of the
Methodist Church, married Jane Henderson, and had three children. He died in
Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, on 26th May 1967.
[f] Josephine Stewart born on 26th January 1885 at Kincull, Feeny, Limavady,
County Londonderry.
[2] MY STEWART GREAT-GRANDPARENTS
The parents of my maternal grandmother were John Stewart of Tullintrain and
Mary Charlotte Brown of Ballyarton. They were married in the Cumber Lower
Presbyterian Church on 25th March 1862. John Stewart was a farmer. Mary
Charlotte Brown was the daughter of Joseph Brown of Ballyarton, a farmer.
[3] MY STEWART GREAT-GREAT-GRANDFATHER
My great-great-grandfather was James Stewart, a farmer of Tullintrain. In
Griffith's Valuation of County Londonderry, taken in 1858, he is recorded as
farming 28 acres as a tenant of Rev Thomas Lindessy.
[4] MY STEWART GREAT-GREAT-GREAT-GRANDFATHER
My great-great-great-grandfather was John Stewart who is recorded in the
Census of 1831 at Tullintrain, in the Parish of Upper Comber as head of a
household of 5 persons. They were a Presbyterian family of 4 [parents, a
son, and a daughter], together with a female Roman Catholic servant. No
other information is given on the Census sheet.
That completes the information that I have at present. Any additional
information about this family will be much appreciated.
