Thanks for your reply. A late family member did the research, but unfortunately all
this information is in bits and pieces and very hard to put together. Family lore had
the Stewarts in Wicklow - but again, no hard evidence. Paul Stewart was born c 1805,
died Feb 10, 1877 and is buried in Toronto Ontario. His wife Annie Hamilton was born c
1809 died February 26, 1876 - again in Toronto. David Hamilton Stewart, born c 1834,
died October 6, 1899 same cemetery plot in Toronto, his wife Rebecca Brown born c 1834,
died April 7, 1905. As I said, their death certificates only state place of birth -
Ireland. Since David was born in Ireland, I would speculate that they did not emigrate
here until after 1834. And with names such as Stewart, Hamilton and Brown - it
presents quite a challenge. I try to sort it out periodically, get quite overwhelmed
with it all and leave it for a while, then pick it up again. There are quite a few
family members in the same plot in Toronto, so it sounds like a whole family emigrated
over. Paul Henry Stewart, born c 1838 and died June 21, 1901 was married to a Cecelia
Addie Flewelling who was born c 1847 in England, died October 15, 1875. Interestingly,
two daughters of David & Rebecca died quite young - Rebecca who was born in 1862 in
Peterborough, Ontario died April 25, 1866 of "bowel complaint", and her sister Sara Ann
Stewart born c. 1860 died on May 5, 1866 of "bowel complaint".
I will look through the piles of "stuff" again and see if I can come up with any more
hard evidence. So close, yet so far. Quite a challenge.
Thanks again for your reply. Bye for now.
