I am descended from another group of Tennessee - Alabama - Mississippi
Stuarts. And my research is also stuck back in Tennessee in the late late
1700's to early early 1800's. I know that I've spoken with you before Mary,
and who knows, we may find that our Stuart /Stewart families are related
somehow.

Jehu Stuart b. 1770-1780 is living in Dickson Co. TN at least by the early
1800's, sells his land up there in 1820 after he has already moved to Perry
Co.,AL. He was missed by the 1820 census it seems. He must have been on
the move at the time. That land sale in Dickson co. stated, Jehu Stuart (of
Perry Co., Alabama). His wife was named Rosanna (she's buried in Noxubee
Co., MS). We have been unsuccessful in finding a marriage record for Jehu &
Rosanna. The first census we have record of for him is in Perry Co.,AL
(1830). His older children in later census records record their birthplaces
as TN. They were all born between 1809- 1820. The younger children record
their birthplaces as Alabama. None are listed on census records where
father & mother's birthplaces are named. They all died before the 1880
census.

So where did Jehu and Rosanna come from? It's still a mystery. They seem
to have some dealings with an Andrew Stuart in Dickson Co. (possibly the one
that lived in Davidson Co. & married Sarah Drake).

Children of Jehu & Rosanna Stuart are:
Susan Stuart (married Joseph Lane Hunter)
Andrew Jackson Stuart
Rachel Stuart (married William Bennett)
Emily Stuart (married 1st to a Leverett, then to John E.W. Carnell)
Manuel L. Stuart (my direct line)
Thomas B. Stuart

I would be interested in corresponding with anyone who might have any
connection to Stuarts or Stewarts in these areas.
Thanks,
Anne
