An early family history by his grandson says that my immigrant, Samuel
Stuart, came to America about 1750 with his wife Jane Dickey. He sailed
from Londonderry, Ireland and probably landed in PA. He probably only
stayed there a short time before coming to Chatham County (then Orange
County), NC and evenually to Moore County, NC. He died in Anderson
County, SC in about 1824. All eight childen, two daughters and six sons,
were thought to have been born in this country. The Stuarts were
alleged to have been Scotch, but to have moved to Ireland prior to their
departure for America. I have no information on Samuel's parents,
sibblings, or residence prior to his sailing.
