Hello All:
Most of my Stewart;s came from Beebe,Quebec, which is on the border of
Vermont and Quebec...I mean right on...the US/Canada border runs straight
through the town. Apparently Horace Stewart Esquire,a banker and broker,
and his wife Catherine Hinman Stewart moved to this area in 1823 for exactly
that reason and set up a mercantile business. But I digress...
In Bebee Quebec, there is a Beebe Cemetery on Principal or Main Street. It
is filled with many, Stewarts and affiliated family names such as Hinman,
House, Beebe, Brown. And just across the border at Stanstead there is Derby
Line VT. and it has numerous names as well. More Hinmans, Houses, etc. I
have photographed many of them. and would suggest this as a great sight to
visit if this line is on any twig in your tree. As this is the area where
two distantly related Stewart lines married around 1900, the branches are
long. One line from the Charlestown in about 1641 from Alexander Stewart's
line to Marlboro,Framingham,Paxton,Rutland,Mass. and Brattalboro,Derby
Line,Vermont areas and the other line from Duncans Stewart line starting ing
from Ipswich Mass. in about 1650 to
Rowely,Newbury,Lunenburg,Salem,Fitchburg,Lunenburg Mass. and
Brownington,Newport,Auburndale, Coventry,Vermont. So if any of these towns
sound familiar perhaps there is a twig that connects to my lines.
Give me a shout and I will check it out with what I have.
Jean W
