I know I sent this to the list awhile back. But I have had requests to
repost.

William STITT, raised as a Penn. Quaker decide to marry Elizabeth Morrison, a
Presbyterian from Carlyle, Penn. She had a brother Capt. James Morrison who,
though born in Ireland, lived in Penn. and fought in Rev.) ( Note: I didn't
write this someone else did.) his father gave him his share of his estate and
told him to go south as he did not relish such a unon. (on religious grounds)

They settled on Six Mile Run in the Waxham region and attended services at
Providence Presbyterian Church wher many of their descendants, as well as
they are buried. (This is from Admiral Edward S. STITT- Med. Corps of U.S.
Navy and one of doctors called in for President Woodrow Wilson.) They had
seven children that I know of. William STITT is the only STITT who bought
land in Mecklenburg County in the very early days. He bought acres from Henry
E. McCulloh 1-15-1767. He bought 60 acres on Six Mile Creek from John
McCulloh 10-3-1793. Also 115 acres on Twelve Mile Creek, New Povidence, from
Arthur Starr 1-1-1796. He must have helped organize Providence Church for it
was organized in 1767.

William and Elizabeth STITT had the following
children
1. James STITT born 6/2/1770 Died 3/23/1806 age 35 yrs. 9 mo. married Jane
McKibben who was born 1769 died 10/15/1843. Jane was daughter of Autrey
McKibben born 1731 died 5/18/1810 age 76.

12/3/1841 age 36,
married James B. Matthews.

9/3/1838 age 70 yrs. Amelia was daughter of Neil Morrison (son of James
Morrison) Mecklenburg signer & Annabella Johnston (daughter of William
Johnston of Penn. but really of New Castle, Del.) Annabella born 1729 d.
9/9/1818 age 89. Neil born 1728 died 9/15/1784 age 56.
