Subject: MCKINNEY/PORTER/STRODE/LOPER of Southeast Louisiana

I am researching the McKinneys of southeast La. and would appreciate
information anyone may have on the following:

John McKinney (or McKinna) - Mary Porter, m. in St. Tammany Parish, La. on
21 Oct. 1817.

M.C. Strode - Sylvia E. Crawford , m. in St. Tammany Parish, La. on 14 Feb.
1855

W. McKenney b. ca. 1826 in La. - Margret? b. ca. 1837 in La. - resided in
St. Tammany Parish as of 1880 census:
Children were:
Alice McKinney
Charles A. McKinney- Madora L. Crawford m. 7 Jul 1883 St. Tammany
Parish
John J. McKinney
Absolem B. McKinney - Nellie Lallie m. 3 Apr 1894 Livingston Parish
Martin Columbus McKinney - Martha Washington Strode m 19 Apr 1886 St.
Tammany Parish
Sarah E. McKinney
Mollie McKinney
William McKinney - Sophia Loper m. 23 Dec. 1890, Livingston Parish
Nellie McKinney - Orelilian (Orelan?) Berthelot m. 6 Mar. 1902,
Livingston Parish

It is possible that W. McKinney (possibly William) was also married to at
least one other woman. Martha Cryer (m. Wm. McKinney 25 Dec. 1846 St.
Tammany) is a strong candidate. It is also possible that W. McKinney had
other children. No marriage record of W. McKinney to Margret ? has been
located, but she is listed as his wife in the 1880 census.

The Loper family seems to be concentrated in the Livingston Parish area, and
I have found no record of the Strode family. All I know of the Strodes is
that they once owned land (Plantation?) near the area known as Indian Village
just east of Slidell in St. Tammany Parish. Some of their kinfolk are buried
in the Oak Grove Cemetary also in the same area. The Porters and Cryers were
listed in St. Tammany Census records and were nearby neighbors of the
McKinneys at that time. The Crawford family is extensive and was even in the
early 1800's in the St. Tammany area. It is believed by family members, that
Sylvia Crawford, who married M. C. Strode was at least part, if not 100%,
Indian (Choctaw or Cherokee?).

If you have any information to share I would be very grateful, and would be
happy to share anything else I may have with you.

Thanks in advance.
