Jesse Stroud enlisted May 3, 1864 as a private in Co. H 161 OH Inf. He
contracted kidney disease at Martinsburg WV in Aug. 1865 and was discharged
a month later.
There was a letter in the file from him to Mercy Stroud in which he said he
wanted to hear from Wm Stroud, wanted James to write. He wanted Tempa Ann,
as the oldest child at home to be a good girl, good to her mother and to the
little children. He also mentioned Joseph, Jesse, Nancy, Rebecca, Matthew
and little Janey.
In June 1891, he was age 68, living in Byesville, Guernsey Co. OH and in
Sept. 4, 1895, he was age 72, living in Steel(?), Belmont Co. OH.
