Wesley Stroud served in Co. B, 11 W Va Inf.
In his Declaration for Original Pension of an Invalid, dated Aug. 26, 1873,
Wesley said he was age 29, of Middleport, Meigs Co. OH. He volunteered Jan.
19, 1862 and was honorably discharged July 22, 1865. He said he was 5' 11
1/2", complexion light, hair light, eyes light. Since leaving service he
worked as a common laborer. Before entering he had been a farmer.
He had originally been dishonorably discharged, but that was later changed.
In March 1886 he was of Wood County W Va, age 41.
In one letter, he was referred to as John Wesley and in another he was J.
Wesley.
I her widow's declaration dated Feb. 13, 1890, Mary A. Stroud her husband
had suffered from a gunshot wound of his forearm and malarial poisoning
resulting in disease of the spleen. He died from the effects of these Jan.
5, 1890. She had been married to him under the name of Mary A. Neal on Aug.
2, 1864 at Parkersburg West Virginia. Neither had been previously married.
A marriage record showed her name as Mary Ann Neal.
There was a letter from her brothers A. J. Neal and Frank Neal, requesting
that Mrs. Ella Runkle, niece of Mrs. Stroud, be allowed to take her from the
county infirmary to her home in Marietta Ohio.
Mary A. Stroud died July 27, 1911 at the Wood Co. W Va Infirmary.
