I agree that DNA testing would be beneficial to sort out the STROUD families. My John STROUD was born say 1725. The first record I have of him is in 1752 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia. He married Sarah MORRIS, and her family was originally from York County, and moved to Isle of Wight County about 1749.
My John STROUD later moved to Mecklenburg County, VA. I would need to check my notes, but I recall there are a couple records in Mecklenburg County that must be the William STROUD of NC, with land in the vicinity of where my John STROUD later settled.
I can't prove if he is related to the STROUD family in York County, and may have married there and moved with his wife's MORRIS family to Isle of Wight County, and I also can't prove if he was related to the William STROUD line in North Carolina line. It would be nice to know if my John STROUD is related to either line, or to neither.
I have contact with STROUD males that could test, but before I would approach them about testing to see if they would, I would like to know that STROUDs from either (preferably both) the William STROUD line and the York County line were going to test.
Information on my STROUD line at the site below.
