The children of Wm Stroud Jr. and Elizabeth Estridge, who settled and
died in Orange Co., NC, had a number of children who migrated to TN,
primarily Sumner Co. My branch, John Stroud and his wf., Delilah
Bryant, remained in Orange Co. Any cousins out there?

From official Stroudsburg site..."Stroudsburg is in the Pocono
foothills, at the confluence of McMichaels, Pocono and Brodhead creeks.
The community was named after Col. Jacob Stroud, settler."

I am from Hohn in Prince George Co., VA, to Orange Co., NC Stroud.
"My" Bryant Stroud changed his sp. to Strowd during the Civil War or
thereabouts. I believe that I know why.

My great great g'father, William Franklin Strowd, is pictured in an
old Stroud genealogical book but the author attached him to
PA...incorrectly. My mother, born an Orange Co. Strowd, received
letters from Stroudsburg officials many years ago, trying to find if
her Strouds were the founders....no.

I recently got some books on taxation and militia fines in some
counties in
Pennsylvania and I found the following Stroud, Stroude. In
Northamapton County:
Col. Jacob, Jacob 2 times. In Chester County: James, Samuel, Richard 2
times,
Jofeph. I am sure there are more as all the names are spelled
phonicly. The
militia fines are for missing exercise and other reasons. The time
period is
1777 thru 1784.
