Researching: Robert Stuart b. February 19, 1785 in Callander, Balquihidder, Perthshire, Scotland d. October 29, 1848 in Sherman House, Chicago, Illinois buried in Elmwood Cem. Detroit, Mich. m. Elizabeth Emma Sullivan b. June 27, 1792 in Brooklyn, New York. m. July 21, 1813 at First Presbyterian Church, New York City, NY. They had 9 children: Mary Elizabeth Stuart Turner, David, Kate, John, Robert, Jr, Marion, William Maynard, Celia, and William Maynard II.
Robert was a partner with John Jacob Astor's 'Pacific Fur Company'. "He sailed around the Horn to Columbia River, in Astoria, Oregon. That voyage, and his subsequent journey East across the Continent, are described in 'The Discovery of the Oregon Trail'. Robert's diary was also used for the book "Astoria" by Washington Irving."
