Hi lsters,
Mobby was made in the Colonies as early as 1645, as seen in Jamestown VA. They had several varieties, one being made from the native sweet potato. Another was Mobby Punch, and mobby made with peaches, apples and just about any fruit. It was also made by the early settlers in Barbados, and Bermuda. In tidewater VA (eastern shoreline), people were affraid to drink the water so they drank their fermented beverages instead, ciders were included. IN the USA I have only seen Mobby in VA, NC and GA. But, I know in Ireland and England it was advertised in old pubs in the 1600´s. I don´t see in in PA, maybe because that was such a Puritan state?
