Looking for info on COL George Washington Stuart. He was born in Iowa on
22FEB1875. I found a George W. Stuart in the 1880 Iowa census listed as
being 5 y.o. and located in Chariton, Lucas, Iowa. The HOH was David Y.
Collins. He graduated from the US Military Academy (West Point) in 1899. A
veteran of the Vera Cruz Expedition in 1914, he served with the 37th DIV in
France during WW1. Serving on the General Staff and commanding a Brigade and
the 148th Infantry Regiment. Following the war he served as an instructor
for the 45th DIV, Oklahoma National Guard from 1933-1939. In 1939 he retired
as a Colonel. COL Stuart died on 02MAR1948 and is buried at the Golden Gate
National Cemetery in San Bruno, CA. I am working on the history of the 148th
Infantry, Ohio National Guard and would like to get a photo of COL Stuart to
add to the other commanders. Please contact SSG Joshua Mann at
. Thanks!
