Last child of Josh Stewart was born in 1872 in Polk Co. MO. His daughter
Jennie, my great grandmother, married in 1888 in Montague Co. TX.
Josh lived first in Tarrant Co., TX, so moved probably just after 1872 to
Texas. He fought for the Confederacy in the Civil War, and wasn't finding
things too friendly in MO afterwards. He never owned land that can be found in
TX. I've checked tax records from Tarrant Co. north through Montague Co., and
then into Wise Co., which is right on the Oklahoma border, and he was never
listed with land. By 1888 he would have been in Montague Co., TX. By 1893 he
was in Chickasaw Nation Indian Territory in Oklahoma, later to become Grady
Co. Josh died in 1925 in Rush Springs, Grady Co., OK, and is buried in
Bailey. Ok, on land donated for a cemetery by his son-in-law, Robert Archer,
Jennie's husband.
