Sorry, I have no news to give you of your Goldspinks - just a suggestion.
If they came to Australia in 1882, then they may have still been in England
in 1881 and should be on the 1881 census. As this has now been fairly
satisfactorily indexed, have you thought of checking to see where they were
then - it ought to give places of birth!
Goldspink is not a name I have ever come across, and Schmidt does not have
an English sound to it either! I have just checked an index for marriages
in the Sudbury area, which includes Long Melford, 1813-1837, to see whether
the name occurred, but with no success.
If you have not yet tried 1881 census, you should be able to see it at any
LDS centre, I think!
