Hi, Adrian,

I don't have anything as early as your bĂȘte noir, however I can confirm that
a CHURCHYARD family was living in the Hoxne area in the early 19th century.
According to IGI William CHURCHYARD married Mary RUSH at Oakley 11.11.1834.
I have traced their children in Hoxne baptism registers and where possible
have confirmed with the GR Indexes at FRC:

Charles bapt 31.7.1836 - pre registration
Elizabeth (my great-grandmother) bapt 7.4.1839 - I haven't picked up her
birth reg. yet
Marianne bapt 20.9.1840; GR Hoxne XIII 404 Sep Qtr 1840
Samuel bapt 31.10.1841; GR Hoxne XIII 412 Dec Qtr 1841
William Lemon bapt 26.5.1844: GR Hoxne XIII 413 Sep Qtr 1844
Emily born 24.8.1845; bapt 12.10.1845 GR Hoxne XIII 448 Sep Qtr 1845

The 1881 census has William, aged 67 Agri Lab b. Hoxne
and his wife, then called Maryann, aged 68 b. Mount Rissing, Essex
living in Syleham.

I, too, suspect some connection in the general direction of Wickham Market
because I have only traced the death of one William at the right age in the
right period, and that is at age 87 registered at Woodbridge (GR ref 4a 710)
in the March Qtr 1900.

I hope these details may help in your searches - If you have anything
related to these CHURCHYARDs, please let me know.

Brian.
