Hi John,

This is wonderful news. It would appear that my great, great grandmother
was your Sarah's sister. I have Sarah, however as yet I don't seem to have
her sister Elizabeth.

Here is what I do have:

Samuel GATES b.16Apr1797 Rougham m. 23Oct1821 Woolpit Eliza BROWNE
b.6Sept1802 Elmswell

Their children [all born at Rougham]:
1. Matilda b.19Oct1823
2. Sarah b.18Sept1825
3. Mary Anne b.2Dec1827
4. William b.11Sept1831
5. Mary b.13Oct1833
6. Harriet b.30Jul1837
7. Sophia b.29Mar1840
8. James Henry b.22May1842
9. Ellen b.4Aug1844

My g/g/grandmother was Mary GATES b.13Oct1833 Rougham. She married Henry
Charles NUNN b.6Sept1835 at Thurston on 20Oct1853.

Mary and Henry Charles and eldest son Henry migrated to Victoria on the
'Anna Maria', arriving in Portland on 10Feb1856. Henry Charles elder
brother James and family had already migrated in 1852. Both families were
at Carngham and later at Youarang. However, I had absolutely no idea that
any of the GATES family had migrated also.

I would very much like to have further details and very pleased to provide
more on the GATES family.

Regards,

Carol

Hi Carol,
My great grandmother was Sarah Gates, born Rougham 18/9/1825. She married
(1) George Cobbold who died, then (2) Robert Nice - my great grandfather.
She had a sister, Elizabeth who married Robert's brother William. They
migrated to Australia in 1858. I understand from another person researching
the name that others of the family came to Australia.
If this information is relevant to your research, I can give you more
details.
