Satima did an excellent job of explaining the IGI but I just want to point
out that the batch number listings on geocities (URL above) are not to my
knowledge an indication of coverage of the IGI but a list of batch numbers
that are known at this time. I have sent in batch numbers which I have
found and suggested that they rename the lists at the end which is headed
"Parishes for which batch numbers are not available" since this is not
accurate. It is a list of Parishes for which batch numbers are not known
(at that time) or Parishes/years which are not part of the IGI.
