Dear Leonard,
I have Gridley ancestry from Great Waldingfield but in the late 1600s/early
1700s.
Information sources as follows (if you don't want to go to the Suffolk
Record Office)
1. You can buy a copy of the GW film from the SRO (not sure on price but
think around £30).
2. You can borrow the GW film via the LDS Family History Centre.
3. You can look at Gridley entries on the IGI (Great Waldingfield is mostly
extracted). This can be done at the LDS Family History Centre or via
www.familysearch.org. Batch numbers for GW are
C062961, C062962, M062961 and M062962.
I have these and could e-mail them to you (but mixed with the rest of
Suffolk - not easy to extract but easy to examine using a family history
program with search capability).
4. I have extracted the burial entries from the register from the late 1600s
(v. difficult to read prior to that date). I did not do the whole register
but only names in which I was interested - including Gridley. These are in
spreadsheet format - tell me your prefered format.
Per the IGI, the marriage you want is to Phoebe STEED on 25 Nov 1830.
The problem is that there is no sign of a christening for Jacob GRIDLEY in
the early 1800s in GW. Equally GW has a lack of Gridley entries in the IGI
in the late 1700s and early 1800s. Hence making the jump to those before
that period may be difficult.
