Happy New Year, Suffolk Listers
I have just returned to researching my family tree after a gap of several
years.
My greatgrandmother MARIA BEDINGFIELD was born circa 1835, possibly in
Southwold. Robert Sterry was kind enough to look her up in the 1851 Census
Index and, I think, has found her as resident 819, in Southwold, born
Southwold, aged 15. There are no other Bedingfields in the house. I have
never worked with the 1851 Census Index. Is it indexed by name, and is it
possible to find out who else was in the house with her ?
Maria's father was Robert Bedingfield and on her marriage certificate, and
from Whites Gazetteer, he is given as a Carrier in the Southwold area. Would
anyone be able to look up Robert Bedingfield for me on the 1851 Census Index,
also his brother Charles, who was also a Carrier ?
From the 1881 Census I am also interested in CHIPPERFIELD's from Southwold
and ALDRED's from Southwold, Reydon & Westhall. Is anyone researching these
names ?
Maria married JOHN ORRIDGE. Their son, William, married ELIZABETH ALDRED.
There are connections with CHIPPERFIELD somewhere. Another connection with
these families is that they were all Greengrocers & Fruiterers.
Any help would be appreciated.
Yours sincerely, Susan Martin, Inveraray, Argyll
