My ancestor, Ann JOLLY was baptised privately in Norton, according to a
notice in the local newspaper.

There is some confusion over whether her father, James, was a farmer, or a
farm worker, from local research carried out last year. Would someone as
lowly as a farm worker been able to afford a private baptism in 1802? Ann
was literate, was this unusual?

Secondly, I don't have an address for Ann's family in Norton. Would Estate
papers or such be of any use to me prior to the period of Census Returns?

Any useful avenues of exploration suggested would be much appreciated.

Thanks and a happy New Year.

Stephanie.
