Awhile back some kind soul sent me the email or website of the Bury Free
Press. I put an article in the paper concerning the family of Fred
Smith of Lawshall, Suffolk. I descend from Charles Smith b. 1808
Lawshall and Mary Ann (b. 1824 Bury St. Edmunds)>Fred Smith b.
1864>Arthur James>AJ Smith>Betty Smith Meischen. Freda Rose who still
lives in Herbert's Cottage, Lawshall and is a descendant through
Charles>my g grandpa Fred's brother William>Fred =Freda's Father had
written and called me years ago and I inquired if anyone knew this
family. My Charles was on the 1881 Census as running the general store
and keeping the post office in Lawshall. I just want to say that so
many wonderful people have responded to this post in the Bury Free
Press, and I would like to thank them from the bottom of my heart back
here in Bellville, Austin County, Texas USA (the place where Charles'
son Fred Smith b. 1864 Suffolk finally landed, called home and is
buried) Many have said they would check in on Freda and it seems we
have quite a family reunion going of cousins and relatives who have
responded. I have some favors to ask of all these nice people. I found
a marriage of Charles Smith to Mary Ann Steel. I wonder is there anyone
who knows anything about the William Steel family of Bury St. Edmunds
and if this Mary Ann Steel is indeed my great great grandmother? Thanks
again.
