Hello,

My great grandmother was Miriam FINCH, and she was born in Sudbury in 1860,
the daughter of Samuel FINCH, a silk weaver, and his wife Mary Ann HUMPHREY.
The family lived at Church Walk, Sudbury, but unfortunately I don't know
anything further about them, so I don't know where Samuel was living before
1850. (I haven't been able to trace their marriage yet). Miriam married
Samuel BERRY (whose father, like hers, was a silk weaver) at Colchester
Register Office on 03 December 1884. The 1881 Census lists a Samuel FINCH
married to a Mary Ann, who might just possibly have been Miriam's parents,
although they seem a bit old:

Wivenhoe Road, Ardleigh, Essex

Samuel FINCH M 73 M Acton, Suffolk, England
Rel: Head
Occ: Pauper (Formerly Ag Lab)

Mary Ann FINCH M 72 F Shelly, Suffolk, England
Rel: Wife
Occ: Pauper

Acton is only 2 or 3 miles from Sudbury, and Shelley about 11 miles, but if
the ages in the census are correct, then Mary Ann would have been 51 when
Miriam was born! (Mind you, my grandmother, Miriam's daughter, also called
Miriam, had a child when she was 46, but he only lived about a year).

Regards,
David Lamb (Paignton, Devon, UK)
