Hi, folks

I have found my great grandparents, George and Martha DREW (nee RIX) living
in Laundry Lane, Lowestoft on the 1901 census. Their second and third
children, Elsie aged 2 and Gerald V(ictor) age 5mths are right where you
would expect them - at home with their family. Then why can't I find "big"
brother George Donald DREW aged 3?

At first I thought he was a mistranscription and when I got the image of the
census page he would be there - but he wasn't! He also wasn't with his
grandparents on dad's or mum's side of the family, nor with any of his aunts
or uncles on his dad's side, who are all accounted for.

OK so he could be in hospital, for example, I know. But no matter how I try
to search for him in the index, no luck. I have tried his first name only
and I've tried his middle name, I've tried using just initials. I have left
out first names altogether and just looked for all 2, 3, 4 and 5 year old
male DREWs born in Lowestoft. Then I thought maybe the birth town was
mistranscribed so I went through every male DREW in the right age group in
the country. Nothing.

Then I discovered among the male DREWs a Dorothy! So just to be sure I
searched for all the female DREWs of the right age but he isn't there
either. I am beginning to think this relative didn't exist (although I
understand he has grandchildren about the place!)

Any thoughts? Can anyone think of something I should have tried but haven't?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Michael DREW
(son of Noel DREW, son of Leslie Rix DREW, younger brother of George Donald
DREW)
