Happy New Year everyone!
I am seeking any information on the following families from
Suffolk/Essex. Aren't I lucky to be researching Smith/Simpson as well
as Baker, Coopers from Reigate/Redhill & Dorking in Surrey and
Williams in the Ardingly area of Sussex. Such common names!
Here are the basics about my SMITHS.
John SMITH married Elizabeth ??? - don't know anything else about
this couple.
Son John SMITH, chr 2 Oct 1687, Layham, died after 1723, married 1709
Layham, Elizabeth SUMFORD (no info on her and her family). Son Robert
Smith, chr 1715 (date smeared on the parish register page), Layham,
married 25 Sept 1741 Elizabeth HUBBARD.
Son of Robert & Elizabeth Hubbard Smith: Robert SMITH, chr 15 Aug
1742, Layham, buried 1817 Copdock, married 1767 Copdock, Ann(e) COOK.
Son of Robert & Ann Cook: James SMITH, chr 11 Sept 1778 Copdock,
married 1799 Copdock, Sarah GODBOLD (Gorble) (chr c1777, died 29 Jan
1839, Belstead). Sarah Godbold's father was possibly William Godbold.
Son of James & Sarah Godbold Smith was Stephen SMITH (31 Jan 1818,
Washbrook, died 1883 Belstead), married 1838 Belstead, Sarah SIMPSON
(1815 Little Horkesley, Essex, died 1898, Rectory Cottage, Belstead)
d/o Wm Simpson). Is there anyone who lives in or near
Belstead/Washbrook to check for me to see if there is a gravestone
for Stephen & Sarah Smith in Belstead?
At Salt Lake City, Belstead, Suffolk parish records only go to about
1838 (I have been there several times). I need to look at records
after 1838. Is there anyone that can help me with Belstead and Little
(Great) Horkesley (Essex) records?
Does Washbrook & Layham have cemeteries - have they been transcribed?
Any help would be most appreciative.
Thank you,
Sincerely,
Kathy Baker, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada
