Hello,

By using the "Neighbours" tab on the CD ROM version of the 1881 Census (I
don't know if that facility is available in the online version at
www.familysearch.org ) I found the following:

Reads: Seems to be a farm. There are 3 families with that address listed,
that of Robert THURLOW (agricultural labourer), that of William CHURCH (also
agricultural labourer) and that of James JEFFERY (farmer)

Morgan's Yard: Could be a side road. "Yard" was often used in naming small
Victorian sidestreets, but this seems usually to have been in towns. There
were 8 families there in 1881, so it doesn't seem to have been one house.
The families were those of Ann RACE (field worker), Walter PAGE (fowl
dealer - Aulkpr [whatever that might mean!]), William DURRANT (Agricultural
Labourer), Edgar THURLOW (Agricultural Labourer), William STUDD
(Agricultural Labourer), Robert PRATT (Agricultural Labourer), Henry RACE
(Agricultural Labourer), James MARTEN (Agricultural Labourer), and Samuel
WEBB (Agricultural Labourer). Again, all seem to be involved in
agriculture, so perhaps it was a farm, a chicken farm, maybe.

The Villa: This could be a mistake for "The Village", as "Village" is the
address which precedes the first "Villa" entry, and "The Village" the first
one to follow it. There are 4 families with the address given as "The
Villa", those of William S. GRIMWADE (retired farmer), John HAMMOND
(Agricultural Labourer), David THURLOW (Agricultural Labourer - [roadman]),
and Arthur THURLOW (Agricultural Labourer).

Garnhams: 3 families, those of William THURLOW (Agricultural Labourer),
Elizabeth SIMPSON (Organist - mus.) and John STAMMERS (Agricultural
Labourer). Perhaps Miss SIMPSON owned the farm, if farm it was.

Could I suggest that you contact the Suffolk Record Office to see if they do
one of their "Parish Packs" for Stonham Aspall? The packs contain a wealth
of information, including old maps, directories, history and so on, and cost
just 5 pounds sterling. There is a website about these packs at:
http://www.suffolkcc.gov.uk/libraries_and_heritage/sro/parishpack.html

I would take a guess that the name which interests you is THURLOW. If so,
and you probably already know this, there were THURLOWs at other addresses
in Stonham Aspall in 1881, including the family of Hezakiah THURLOW
(Agricultural Labourer), with the address "Turnpike", Ann THURLOW, servant
at Longlands Farm, Mary A. F. THURLOW (servant at Broughton Hall) plus the
family of Thomas THURLOW (Butcher and dealer), with no address other than
"Stonham Aspall, Suffolk"

I hope this helps.

Regards,
