February 16th 1853. Inquest at Suffolk Hospital at Bury on David Scales, 25,a labourer in the employ of Mr Samuel Payne of Hawstead, who on the previous Monday was engaged in moving the straw from threshing machine when the spindle caught his frock and wound him round before the horses could be stopped, he dashed his head on the floor, he was removed to Bury Hospital but died three hours later. The jury expressed a hope that Mr Payne would erect a cover over the spindle.
