Hello,

I'm not researching the Filer/Fyler surname, but there are a couple of
people who do look-ups in the registers of the various churches in
Stowmarket -- yours truly for the Church of England Parish church and Neil
Langridge for all of the churches extant c. 1795 (see
<www.stowmarket-history.com/resources.htm> for details).

I'll have a look at the registers over the weekend.

Regards,
Charles Fuller.

Now looked up for you

Fornham St Martin 1851

William Filer/Fyler Head mar 57 Maleter born Suffolk Stowmarket
Susan Filer wife mar 44 born Borley Essex
William Filer son age 6 born Borley Essex

1841 census Borley Essex

William Fyler Head age 47 Maleter born out of area
Elizabeth Fyler age 75(around that age) born out of area

Parents of William

William Fyler and Elizabeth Barker Stowmarket
Elizabeth Fyler nee Pettit (above) and Wm Fyler/Filer (on Boyds Marriage
Index as an error as Tiler were married in Fornham St Martin Suffolk in
1815. Clearly shows the name is Fyler on the parish records.

I spent around 5 years looking for William Filer/Fyler age 6 on the above
index on the 1881 census and could not find them until I found them under
Tiler at 12 Devas Street Bromley Middex, a few doors down from where my
Grandfather George William Filer was born.

Any one researching the above Fyler/Filer surname from Stowmarket/Fornham St
Martin or Bury St Edmunds be pleased to hear from you.

William Fyler above died in 1862 in Workhouse Bury St Edmunds.
Elizabeth Pettit Fyler died in Borley Essex in 1839. William Fyler married
Susan Theobald in Borley and they had one child William Fyler.

Katie
