Hello everyone:
Today I was at our familyhistory center and copied the marriage certificate
for David Peterkin Morrison and Adelaide Victoria Lenney Mickleburgh,
12-22-1857 in St. Mary's, Woodbridge. On the certificate it clearly states that
Adelaide is illegitimate. I ordered the tape for births/deaths etc. this morning.
This is my question.

On the 1841&1851 census, Adelaide is listed under the Mickleburgh name. Was
it common for an illegitimate child to be raised as part of the family?
Also, I believe that her mother was Emma Lenney - she is included in the 1841
census, age 30, H.S. (house servant?). In the 1851 census Emma is 39 and she
is evidently listed under the Mickleburgh name.
Robert was married to Louisa Fisher, Pallot's Marriage Index, in 1819. And
there seems to be an older daughter by the name of Eliza who is 20 in 1841.
There don't seem to be any other marriages listed for him. Is it possible that
he married Emma Lenney elsewhere? Or, that he never married her. By 1851 he
had Robert, age 10, Fontaine (f) age 3, and a daughter Emma who was 5 in 1841
but not listed in 1851. (I printed out a marriage certificate from 1861 for
an Emma Mickleburgh, right age for Emma who was 5, but the father is listed as
William Mickleburgh??) Would Robert have had all of these children out of
wedlock? Would he have raised all of these children and not married the
mother???

Would Robert's will be on file somewhere in Suffolk? He died September 6,
1852. This might help me sort out his family.

Also since I printed out two marriage certificates, I have two additional
certificates for the following people:
William BenjaminCooper - Elvina Williams Hitchcock - March 14, 1858 and
David Jackson-Charlotte Barker - October 30, 1861
If anyone is researching these names I'll be happy to scan them and send via
email.
