Hello Marg,

Thank you for your suggestions. I have two lines of the Burcham family
that I can follow right through to all the rellies living Down Under.

John and Elizabeth Burcham (nee Crisp) married in Wymondam, Norfolk.
Their eldest son, William married Emma Chamberlin in 1846 and moved to
Lowestoft, Suffolk. William's younger sister Elizabeth, married Robert
Nicholas Doughty a Widower also in 1846, Robert was born in Walpole St
Peters. They ended up living in Portsea in Hampshire with their growing and
large family by the early 1860s.

A daughter of William and Emma Burcham (of Lowestoft), Elizabeth
Chamberline Burcham, married a son, of Robert Nicholas and Elizabeth Doughty
(nee Burcham), he was George Frederick Doughty at the time of the marriage a
PC in Whitechapel, London.

Two sons of William Burcham and five sons of his sister Elizabeth Doughty
(nee Burcham) immigrated to Australia, between 1877 and 1888.

I am finding a lot more Burchams and Doughtys who arrived in the Colony
before the ones above, and they all come from either Suffolk or Norfolk and
I feel that in some way that must be related to the later arrivals.

Thanks to information give by generous Listers on this List, I have been
able to fill in some of the life of Cotton Burcham before she sailed from
English shores. I had found two of her sisters living nearby in Depwade,
and also living in Depwade were her parents Robert and Hannah and three more
siblings in the 1851 Census. At the moment I am treating Cotton as a stray,
but hope to find a connection.

Regards,
Janice
