Hi John,
I don't know who was licencee of the Manger in Bradfield Combust in the
Second World War years but I've recently found my ancestors (Greenwoods) come
from there and I've got written down in my file notes from the 1861 census that
the licencee at the time was Innkeeper and farmer (employing 8 men) Eliza
Hynard. My Greenwoods (two generations) were living next door at Church Yard so
they may have been employees of hers, all being agricultural labourers. I can
probably let you have the phone number of the owners/licencees or, if they
are a Greene King pub, the brewery in Bury may know the history of the Inn.
May I ask if you are researching ancestors from Bradfield Combust also? Are
there any old reproduction maps available of this area for sale anywhere, do
you know?
