Subject: ADMIN. POST - Mail Delivery Problems - Periodic Review
Date: Mon, 24 Jan 2005 19:17:45 -0600
Folks,
given the increasing seriousness of ISPs NOT delivering list mail for
not-very-good reasons, I'm giving the list a review every week or so of
the extent of the problem on a more consistent basis. I'm hoping this
will do two things:
1. increase the degree by which subscribers do NOT miss mail (by
accessing the list archives for missed mail); and
2. illustrate which ISPs are more prone to delivery issues from
time-to-time than others.
These statistics ONLY deal with ISP delivery problems, NOT with
individual subscriber's bounces because, for example, your mailbox was
full or your address is non-existent (e.g., because you've changed it).
Those of you affected by missed mail, EITHER "list" mode OR "digest"
mode, might wish to consult the list archives for any posts you missed, at:
http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/SUFFOLK
So, for the period commencing 17 Jan until today:

SUMMARY: @hotmail.com & msn.com each acted up with one post during the
week; some not unusual transient problems with a couple of the Oz ISPs;
@mail.com & lycos.com have (temporarily?) blacklisted RootsWeb (see
http://spamblock.outblaze.com/66.43.18.41 ) ...
The following new notices are from the Helpdesk at
http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/ :
"Message Boards: 2005-01-19
"RootsWeb is pleased to announce some upcoming improvements to the
message boards. Work on the search system is scheduled for the
late/early hours between Wednesday, January 26 and Thursday, January 27.
At this time the message boards may be down briefly. We apologize for
any inconvenience this may cause."
Additionally, as I've mentioned before, if you have any questions about
whether or not you're receiving list mail, please feel free to contact
me directly at any time, or check the RootsWeb Helpdesk messages at:
http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/ .
If you have any questions about whether or not you're still subscribed,
you can always check:

Thanks.
