According to the book I have "Memories of a Gamekeeper's Son" the Hall was
taken over early in the war as Brigade HQ for the British Army. In the Autumn
of 1942 the 3rd Bombardment Division of the 8th US Army Air Force took over
using it as their HQ under the command of Brig-General Curtis Le May. The 3rd
Bombardment Division flew B 17 Fortresses from a dozen airfields in Suffolk.
Hope that helps a little.
Regards. Barbara.

Thanks for that info Barbara. It makes me wonder if the Edward Youngs I am
trying to trace who was stationed at Elveden in 1942 & early 1943 was American
rather than English?

Regards Neil Clarke.
