Subject: ADMIN. POST - Mail Delivery Problems - Periodic Review
Date: Tue, 07 Mar 2006 16:44:41 -0600

Folks,

given the increasing seriousness of ISPs NOT delivering list mail
for sometimes pretty silly reasons, I'm giving the list a review
every week or two of the extent of the problem on a more consistent
basis. I'm hoping this will do two things:

1. increase the degree by which subscribers do NOT miss mail (by
accessing the list archives for missed mail); and

2. illustrate which ISPs are more prone to delivery issues from
time-to-time than others.

These statistics ONLY deal with ISP delivery problems, NOT with
individual subscriber's bounces because, for example, your mailbox was
full or your address is non-existent (e.g., because you've changed it).

PLEASE NOTE CAREFULLY, HOWEVER: SOME ISPS WILL RETURN A "USER UNKNOWN"
OR "MAILBOX DOESN'T EXIST" MESSAGE WHEN IT DOES EXIST AND COULD RECEIVE
MAIL BUT THE ISP IS HAVING DELIVERY ISSUES!! I AM STARTING TO RECORD
THOSE AS WELL BELOW ... ONE OR TWO ONLY FROM A PARTICULAR ISP WILL OFTEN
INDICATE A TRANSIENT ISP DELIVERY ISSUE.

Those of you affected by missed mail, EITHER "list" mode OR "digest"
mode, might wish to consult the list archives for any posts you missed, at:

http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/SUFFOLK

So, for the period commencing 27 Feb until today:

This ISP Bounced Posts To Subscribers Mode
---------------- ---------- ----------------- ----

eurobell.co.uk 4 1 L
frontiernet.net 1 1 D
frontiernet.net 3 1 L
johncmalouf.com.au 1 1 L
longweb.f9.co.uk 1 1 L
lovewell.net 1 1 D

And for "User Unknown" (and similar) bounce messages:

This ISP Bounced Posts To Subscribers Mode
---------------- ---------- ----------------- ----

actrix.co.nz 2 1 D
inet.net.nz 3 1 L
