Hugh... You have ample reason to be confused. I created most of the confusion.

Indeed this is John Cloud Sullivan, son of Isaac1. The Mainor report is
again incorrect in having his birthplace as Virginia. I don't know where
that came from. The same report I mentioned (John's AFN:1D7Q-N9W) lists his
birthplace as Ireland and the same report lists his father (Mr. Sullivan) as
being born in VA!!! I can assure you and everyone that the John listed in
the 1850 MS census in Carroll County, page 263, Northern District is John
Cloud Sullivan, son of Isaac1. He is also listed in the 1860 Census, page
63, 5th District, Carroll Co. No doubt about it!
>2. The same report, using the same census, shows Mary Mondal, wife of Isaac,
>the MD, as being born in NY - not PA. NY is probably closer to being a New
>England State than PA.
Another of my errors, more than likely. Mary Mondal was not the wife of
that Isaac, (I refer to him as Isaac2, son of Isaac1) she is the wife of
Isaac1. Isaac2's first wife was Mary Ruth Clarke of either Philadelphia or
New York. I have not spent any time on her. Her name is listed variously
as May Clarke, Mary Clarke, etc. Isaac2 was one of the four children that I
listed who went to Mississippi near or after the death of Isaac1. Isaac1,
William N. and John Cloud all owned a Sawmill in Robeson County, very close
to the Cumberland County line. That explains the sawmill connection above
in Mississippi.
Mary Mondal is a total enigma to me. I cannot find the name Mondal in any
census from 1780's to 1870 in any state from Pennsylvania south. I really
do need help with her. Does anyone recognize the name? Can anyone give me
a hint as to the ethnic origin of the name Mondal? Sounds Germanic to me...
maybe Gaelic... Please... some suggestions.
