Hello Debbie,

Good to hear from you and to learn of your interest in your 3rd great grandmother Keziah Kiser.

I have some information on Keziah's parents, whom I have registered as Abraham and Jane (Lowry) Kiser. Regret I have not had time to research earlier on the Kiser line.

Below are the first three paragraphs copied from "Additional Notes" on Keziah as found in the book A SULOUFF AND SULOFF FAMILY HISTORY (with slight editing done since the 2003 edition):
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Keziah's father, Abraham, is believed to have been the renowned gunsmith of that name who lived in Arch Rock, just a few miles upriver from Mifflintown PA. According to the obituary of his daughter, Caroline, it is believed he died about 1882 (Source: Juniata Co. Historical Society's book entitled "Bender Family," p. 1).
Keziah's will, written in March 1876, bequeathed to "my son David Sulouff the sum of one dollar." To "husband Jacob Sulouff all the rest and residue of my estate, real and personal, in trust for the support and maintenance of himself & of my children, Kate Anderson, Lillie Crawford, James M Sulouff, Thomas J Sulouff and Andrew J Sulouff.... I further direct that no portion of said property is to be in any way liable for the debts of Jacob Sulouff, but solely a trust for the purposes aforesaid." [At the death of Jacob Sulouff] "I direct all the property undisposed of to be sold and the proceeds to be divided among my children, [above list of children is here duplicated], the share of Kate to be eight hundred dollars less than the share of each of said children, and their shares to be equal." Keziah's estate was sizeable, necessarily well in excess of $5000 in order for her to state that Kate's share was to be $800 less than the others' shares.
>From all indications, it is surmised the Kiser family had been well off, though Keziah's share of inheritance from her father awaits investigation. Keziah appointed her husband as executor of her will. On 18 November 1884, Keziah wrote a codicil to her 1876 will, noting that her son, D. P. Sulouff, earlier granted one dollar, had died and now Keziah wanted David's children, Frederick E. Sulouff and Fannie May Sulouff (of Harrisburg PA) to receive jointly at her husband's death the same share, divided beween them, that her living children were to receive according to her earlier will (daughter Kate's share remained diminished by $800 as before)."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Debbie, over the past five years I have received a great deal of carefully researched information on the Anderson branch of the family from Susan McNitt (Anderson) Wismer. She is a great granddaughter of James B. Anderson (1839-1911), your great-great grandfather. If you are not acquainted with Susan and would like to get in touch, please let me know and I will try to get you two in touch with each other.

One other question, Debbie. I am curious why Kate's portion of inheritance was diminished by $800 less than shares bequeathed to her siblings. The answer may be found in court documents about real estate purchases, etc., but I have never had time to pursue the question. If your research ever solves that riddle, will you kindly let me know?

Regards,

Nelson R. Sulouff
Your 5th cousin, once removed

Nelson,
My name is Deborah (Kerr) Hays, my great-great grandmother was Catherine "Kate" Sulouff born 1851 to Jacob and Keziah(Kiser) Sulouff. Catherine Sulouff was married to James Anderson, their daughter Gertude Tamsen Anderson married John Fayette Kerr. Gertude and John's son Walter Anderson Kerr married Aletha Jean Carter who had two children, one of them my father John Robert Kerr. My husband and I have lived all of our lives in Salineville, Columbiana County, Ohio; which is near the border of Pennsylvania and West Virginia. I do not have much on Kezia Kiser who married Jacob Sulouff. Would be interested in any info on her or anyother family member of Kezia and Jacobs line. Debbie Hays
