My grgrgrandfather was William Franklin Battles,3rd
Reg.Tenn.Cav.co.K.Pvt.,POW Cahaba,Sultana survivor.
All my life I had heard the story of my ancestor and his Civil War
exploits,my cousin knowing my love of history kept saying that she wanted me
to find out the name of the SHIP that he nearly died on.
Thank to the internet and a kind gentleman named George Beason I unraveled
the story of the Sultana and a lot of bonus history to go with it.
Frank was at Cahaba with his brother James Monroe and cousins Isacc and
Russell Battles.James was not put on the Sultana because he was sick with
pneumonia,Isacc was lost with the Sultana and so far I have not found out
what Russell's fate was except that he was not listed as lost.
I want to take this opportunity to thank David and everyone else that has
helped me during the five short years that I have researching,you helped me
turn a mystery into a fact.
