To clarify the "Elizabeth ANDERSON" who married Daniel Sumner (Under
"Daniel Thompson SUMNER, Jr" in the earlier e-mail on this :

Daniel Thompson Sumner, Sr. originally married Delilah Key in Emanuel
County, Ga.

Daniel and Delilah then spent some years in Ware County, Georgia (he was
a Representative from Ware County 1865-1866)

In the 1880 census, Daniel (SR) had married "Elizabeth Anderson" and was
living in Columbia County, Florida with her three sons by a former
marriage. (their marriage record and the census all show Elizabeth and
her 3 sons with the last name ANDERSON.)

In this same 1880 Columbia County, Florida census, (page 7 line 7)
shows:
"Delilah Sumner", age 55, born Georgia, living in the household of her
son Jordan J. Sumner and his wife Mary. (Daniel (SR) and Delilah had,
obviously, divorced sometime before 1879 when he married Elizabeth)

Re Elizabeth:
Elizabeth was the daughter of John and Bethany Douglas. The Douglas
family lived in Ware County, Georgia after their marriage in 1832. In
late summer of 1844, the Douglas family moved to Columbia County,
Florida. And it was in Columbia County, Fla. that D. T. Sumner (SR)
married Elizabeth who, by this time, had been married twice before; 1st
to John Anderson and 2nd to Carey Cole.

In the 1920 census, "Elizabeth Sumner", aged 73, is living in the
household of her son "Seller C Cole". This indicates that the son
carried in the earlier census as "Seller Anderson" was actually the son
of Elizabeth's 2nd husband, Carey Cole and not her 1st husband, John
Anderson. And, obviously, her son Elijah, born in 1874, was also the
son of Carey Cole.

In short (??), Daniel Thompson Sumner, Sr. divorced Delilah Key and
married Elizabeth Douglas Anderson Cole on Nov 6, 1879 in Columbia Co.,
Florida.

(above data on the DOUGLAS family comes from "Florida Pioneers and Their
Descendants" Vol 1, page 63, 64)

NEW SUBJECT:

Mary Magdelene (Margie) Sumner, grand daughter of Daniel Thompson
Sumner, JR, tells Jim Bishop that her grandfather's middle name was
THOMAS, not THOMPSON.
