CHARRETT / CHAROT; HAM,ENG / DBY,ENG / FRA; C.1835
Seeking Martha Charrett/Charot. According to my grandfather the family name was
Charot (my guess at the spelling from his pronunciation) and came from France
to England (time unknown). Martha was (I think) baptised in Fareham, HAM (1891
census & vague reference from a source I cannot now trace) and she married(?)
Robert Morton. Several children born in Sheffield WRY, or DBY vicinity c.1850
onwards. Although I can trace birth registrations I cannot find a marriage, any
baptisms or even her death in civil registers (post 1897, and probably near
Altrincham, CHS)
According to family legend the original Charot came from Paris and was a
coach/carriage builder to some notable family. There are known connections with
Chatsworth House, DBY, but this may not be the link with the coach builder.
Any help you may be able to give will be very much appreciated.
Many thanks, Jon Thornley.
