May 10 is Confederate Memorial Day in North Carolina. It
commemorates the death of Eneral Stonewall Jackson in 1863 and the
capture of President Jefferson Davis in Irwinsville, Georgia, in 1865. So
it is a particularly appropriate date for the establishment of the
Georgia SUVCW department.
Congratulations from the Department of North Carolina,
established April 19, 2008, at Bennett Place where the surrender of the
last Confederate army in the southeast was negotiated in late April,
1865.
The Ellis Camp SUVCW joined with the area SCV camp on May 10 to
remember the Confederate and Union dead at the Buncombe County civil war
memorial in Asheville.
