Hello All:

I would like to announce that I have decided to create a new section on the
Hills and Hollers website. It will be entitled Recipes from Yesteryear
(Mouthwaterin' Recipes from the Hills and Hollers). Next to true genealogy
work, I'm partial to country cookin'! Most important aspect here is to
preserve the historical recipes of our past generations.

IF you are interested in submitting your recipes or other cooking ideas,
stories, hints, questions, etc. for inclusion on the website, please contact
me off list. Remember, you will always maintain the right to remove your
work from the website at anytime.

If this idea is successful, perhaps we could turn it into a fundraiser for a
historical/genealogical society.

Here are a couple of recipes sent to me by a dear friend.

Vinegar pie
Combine :
2 medium egg yolks
2 cups tap water
1/2 cup vinegar
1 Tablespoon melted and cooled butter

Mix 1 1/2 cups white sugar with 4 Tablespoons plain flower and
Combine vinegar and flour mixture
Add 1/2 teaspoon lemon extract.
Pour into 8 inch unbaked pie shell.
Bake in preheated 450 oven for 10 minutes.
Reduce heat to 350 and bake 20 to 30 minutes until set.

Buttermilk Pie
Cream together:
1/4 cup butter and 1 1/2 cups white sugar.
Add 3 eggs one at a time.
Sprinkle in 2 Tablespoons plain flour.
Add 1/2 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon almond or lemon flavoring
Pour into 9 inch pie crust
Bake in preheated 350 oven for about 29 to 32 minutes until filling is
firm to the touch.

I have a number of email addresses, here are two that I check quite often.

ancestors.
