At the risk of adding fuel to the fire, I am a volunteer at OHS. My
primary job is answering death certificate requests. A major part of
this work is done by volunteers. Since a portion of the lists are on
line (1913-1937) , the volume of requests has grown geometrically. In
my opinion (not necessarly that of OHS) the price ($3 for out of state
requests, $3.18 for instate) is reasonable. The rules for pricing and
certification are the rules of the state of Ohio. I realize that a wait
of several months may not make people happy, but that is the way it is.
Perhaps if the price were $10 per certificate enough people could be
hired to provide instant turnaround. I am just trying to be helpful, we
really do the best we can.
