My mom and dad did that...lived in Portsmouth and married in Greenup while
my grandparents went the other way....lived in Ky and married in Portsmouth.
Mom used to tell me that the Ohio river wasn't as wide or as deep as it was
when she was a child. In the winter, she said you could walk across it when
it froze...and that was most of the winter.
Maybe, instead of a ladder propped up against the house, parents gave the
kids ice skates..... ;o)
