Looking for information on the McMullen-McGowen families of Co. Antrim.
My gg-grandparents, John McMullen and his wife, Mary McGowen, migrated
from Co Antrim Ireland about 1825 with their older children and settled
in Kentucky, USA.
John McMullen was born about 1778/1779, probably in Co. Antrim, and died
in 1860 in Franklin County, Kentucky. His wife, Mary McGowen, was born
about 1785/1786 in Ireland and died 1869 in Kentucky. They married in
Ireland about 1805/1810. Their children were: George, John, Archibald,
Lucy Jane, William (all born in Ireland), and James D., Merritt J. (both
born in Kentucky).
The children dropped the "Mc" and used the name "Mullen" or "Mullin".
The family was protestant (in the USA) and was apparently "Ulster-Scot"
(or Scotch-Irish, if you prefer), the name McMullen being the Irish
spelling of the Scottish MacMillan.
Any information on this family in Ireland would be greatly appreciated.
