Carole,
I sympathyze. I chose to respond to you because you are probably
tender-hearted and caring like I am. But I am a strong survivor!
I am a black woman. I have read all you guys' stuff out there in
cyberspace, and although I'm surprised by some, none of it hurts me.
Fighting never solved any problems. We all suffer the consequences in one
way or another. Fighting and anger only are a sin, causing timeless
results that impact our lives far into the future. People all over the
world really need to find the facts before they take things so personally.
I have slave ancestors, and this has frustrated and angered me for many
years that it had to happen to my ancestors, but after setting out on my own
to find the facts, I am a healed person now. The truth heals people. I
have religiously used the library and archives, etc to find my ancestors'
genealogy records. Now I know the truth about them. But all did not suffer
or triumph in the same experiences or events. Life is different for all.
So no one group of people will ever be able to live happily ever after. No
one group of people deserves to have the best or the worst of life just
because of who they are. I have read many books written in the mid 1800's
that that turned my insides with emotion. But my head tells me this has
passed.

We are all headed in the same direction, and when your life is going too
smoothly, it's probably going downhill! Let's learn about one another's
history and cultures together, and not try to fight to get our own way or
the best of everything, all the land ownership, business ownership, or be on
top, or think we are the ones that deserve everything. I often look about
and around this country right now, and wonder why does the black man have so
little ownership and participation in the economy of this country.

Yes, we are a struggling people, just trying to move up a little so that we
don't fall through the cracks. If those on top were a little more fair to
all with opportunities and less deception and jealousy, I think those of us
at the bottom and in the middle of this caste system (white and black,
yellow and red) would not be biting and tearing at each other so much over a
flag that symbolizes the horrors of slavery to one race and an ancestral
memorial to another!
Love,
Daisy
